Box Day!

Our Sonlight curriculum showed up this weekend. We have spent the weekend pouring over all the books and organizing the binder. I am so excited! I can't wait to dive in! I truly love children's lit and one of my all time favorite activities to do is simply read to my children. I love cuddling on the couch and telling a story with enthusiasm to my children. The truth be told....they like hearing it! Even my soon to be 14 year old loves for me to read aloud to him. Last year I checked out a couple of great bibliographies on people we were studying such as Squanto and Julius Caesar. The boys made me read the whole book in two days. They did not want me to stop. So I have a feeling they will gobble up good literature based learning. Check out a pic of all the books Christian and Justin will be reading for this coming school year.

Timmy will likely be listening in on quite a bit of them too. I would never imagine that I could fit this many books into a 36 week program, but sonlight works it all in for ya. They break it down into manageable amounts for daily reading. They coordinate all your history and language arts around the stories. I am hoping for it to a be an exciting way to learn. I totally hate textbook style learning. I had more fun teaching Timmy this year with Five in a row than making my older kids memorize random facts for tests, knowing all would be forgotten in a few weeks. I truly feel learning about a point in time tied to a story will make things much more memorable. As well as naturally improving vocabulary, writing and spelling along the way!

We were going to use Sonlight for science, but I snagged a great deal on Apologia so I have chosen to teach Timmy and Justin together on science and Christian by himself.

I realize Sonlight is not a program for everyone else, but I am hopeful it will be perfect fit for our family. That is the joy of homeschooling...we get to cater it to our family!

Fun, Fun! I use the Sonlight book lists for our read alouds every year. I also keep up with Ambleside, Veritas Press, and a few other curriculums to determine what we will be reading each year. ;-) We too love good literature!
